1. Agreement

By accessing or using Characters.biz (the "Site") you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the Site.

2. Who we are

Characters.biz is an independent reference and editorial site for fictional characters across anime, cartoons, movies, television, games, and literature. "We", "us", and "our" refer to Characters.biz. "You" means the person accessing or using the Site.

3. Permission to use the Site

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and read Site content for your personal, non-commercial use. You may share short excerpts with attribution. You may not:

• Copy, scrape, or republish substantial portions of the Site or its databases without written permission.
• Sell, sublicense, or redistribute Site content as your own.
• Remove or alter copyright, trademark, or attribution notices.
• Mirror the Site or a material portion of it on another server.
• Use automated tools to access the Site in a manner that imposes an unreasonable load, or that circumvents rate limits or access controls.
• Reverse-engineer any software associated with the Site.

This licence ends automatically if you breach these Terms.

4. Intellectual property

All character names, images, likenesses, trademarks, logos, and related media referenced on the Site are the property of their respective rights holders — including the original creators, publishers, studios, and networks. Characters.biz does not claim ownership of any third-party characters, and our use of names, brief descriptions, and textual references is for commentary, criticism, and reference in accordance with normal editorial conventions.

The editorial text, structure, design, and original compilations on the Site are the intellectual property of Characters.biz. You may not reproduce them at scale without permission.

If you are a rights holder and believe content on the Site goes beyond what you consider acceptable, contact legal@characters.biz with the page URL and your concern.

5. Accuracy and "as is" disclaimer

Characters.biz aims for accurate, up-to-date descriptions, but popular media changes: franchises release new entries, creators revise lore, characters develop, and we don't always catch changes on the day they happen. Site content is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We may change, remove, or update content at any time without notice.

6. No professional advice

The Site is entertainment and reference content, not professional advice of any kind. Rankings, tier lists, and comparisons are editorial opinions. Don't rely on Characters.biz for decisions where you would normally consult a qualified professional.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Characters.biz and its contributors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, data, or use, arising from or relating to your use of, or inability to use, the Site — whether based on contract, tort, or any other legal theory, even if we've been advised of the possibility of such damages. Some jurisdictions don't permit the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of liability for certain damages; in those cases the law of your jurisdiction applies.

8. Advertising

The Site is supported by advertising served by third-party networks, including Google. We don't control the specific ads you see. Interactions with advertisers — including purchases — are between you and the advertiser. Our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy describe how ad partners handle data.

9. Third-party links

The Site may link to third-party websites. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content, policies, or practices. Following a link is at your own risk; review the third party's own terms and privacy policy.

10. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Site to:

• Violate any applicable local, national, or international law.
• Transmit unlawful, defamatory, harassing, or otherwise objectionable material.
• Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity.

We won't publicly attribute a submission without your agreement. You are responsible for ensuring anything you send us is yours to send.

We may update the Site and these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll update the "Last reviewed" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Site after an update means you accept the revised Terms. If you don't agree with an update, stop using the Site.

13. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Site at our discretion, with or without notice, if you breach these Terms or if we believe your use of the Site is harmful to us, other users, or third parties. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitation of liability — survive.

14. Governing law and jurisdiction
