What this blog covers

The main Characters.biz site catalogues characters franchise by franchise. This blog sits alongside it as an editorial space: short essays, comparison pieces, and ranking explainers that look across multiple shows rather than living inside a single one. If a franchise page is a reference card, a blog post is a point of view.

Our coverage stays inside the same topic as the rest of the site — fictional characters from anime, cartoons, movies, TV, video games, and literature. We don't chase unrelated news, leaks, or rumour posts. When a new season or release genuinely changes how a character is understood, we revisit the franchise page first, then write about the change here if it's worth unpacking.

How to use the site

Most readers land on a franchise hub and drill down from there. A few practical starting points:

  • All anime characters — the broadest landing page on the site, a jump-off to every major anime franchise we track.
  • All cartoon characters — Western animation, from preschool shows to adult comedies.
  • Tier lists & rankings — comparative power rankings and popularity tiers organised by franchise.
  • Character birthdays — a calendar of canon and creator-confirmed birthdays across franchises.
  • Voice actors — who voices whom, in both original-language and major dubs.
  • Quizzes — short knowledge checks organised by franchise.

How we write about characters

Every franchise page starts with who the character is in-universe, their role in the story, relationships that drive the plot, and the abilities or traits that define them. Where a show is ongoing, we note the most recent arc a page has been reviewed against.

We try to keep spoilers proportional. A one-line role summary won't give away a major reveal, but deeper analysis will sometimes need to. Where a post hinges on a late-series development, we'll say so near the top.

We cite show canon first: the manga or novel for adaptations that diverge, the main film series where a franchise has many side releases, and creator interviews where something important was only said outside the work itself. When rankings are subjective, we say why a character ranks where we've placed them rather than hiding the reasoning.

Topic areas we track

  • Character analysis: single-character essays that dig into motivation, arc shape, and thematic function.
  • Power rankings & tier lists: comparative strength within a franchise, with the feats and reasoning that justify each placement.
  • Versus comparisons: cross-franchise hypotheticals, kept in the spirit of the source material rather than stat-sheet extrapolation.
  • Franchise explainers: systems, lore, and terminology that newcomers tend to ask about — breathing styles, cursed techniques, quirks, bending, Devil Fruits, and so on.
  • Voice cast & production: who played whom, across original-language and major dubs.
